I do so agree with you. There was a very popular pastor from South Korea named David Yonggi Cho. He had the largest church in the world. On one of his recordings on YT, he spoke about a Tabernacle Prayer. My wife and I perform this on a regular basis.

It is deep in meditation, deep in thought, and can last for hours. Praying like that, with those thoughts, can really help you clean yourself of a specific personal issue/behavior.
After reading your article, and understanding prayer in many different cultural societies in current and past times, I see just what you wrote.
- Find a quite place
- Think deep in thought about yourself and something that you do not like or want to be in you. Ask for the strength to push it out, and ask for grace to help pull it out.
- Pray for others.
It is not about a selfish prayer and selfish wants. It is about a selfless pray and a selfless need.
Jesus taught us how to live our lives, not the Bible. Love, compassion, truth, caring and giving.
