A lot of people do not even know that New Orleans is way older than the United States. That’s why it feels more unique than any other state. I say that because when every other state was assimilating New Orleans was doing its own thing. Bounce music is only one unique feature.
This is why “The Essence Festival” will not feel right in other state if they moved it. Because it defeats the meaning of the term itself in regards to why New Orleans stands on its own. When they tried to move that event to Houston bsck in 2006 it was a disaster.
People forget why they call New Orleans “The Big Easy”. Everything is in walking distance that you could possibly want. I remember changing 3 times in one day as the Holiday Inn is only 15 minutes from the French Quarters. And my job was right next door.
The Boardwalk was also just a 10-15 minute walk from that same hotel. You walk past about a dozen restaurants before you get there. Not to mention my father worked down the street from me as the Fire Arson Chief at the fire department.
Anytime a music video was being shot he would tell me and ask if I wanted to see a particular artist. Rapper Juvenile was the 1st musician video set I got to go to when he shot “I Got That Fire” in 1999. I was 15 at the time. My friends were always surprised as to how I knew what artists were shooting videos.
But people need to understand that New Orleans was founded in 1718 or around that time. That’s why you have a lot of Spanish architecture because it was ruled by Spain for several decades. Louisiana didn’t become apart of the US until 1803. Did you all know New Orleans was ruled under 10 different flags?
This is why tourists loved coming there because they appreciated how everything was so close. And that we had no curfew in that city. So you could drink and party until you couldn’t stand anymore. Not to mention the lore of New Orleans is something that is special, mysterious, and creepy at the same time.

Just look up the “vampire sisters” or the Casket Girls of New Orleans. Many people visit N.O. just to see the Old Ursuline Convent Museum on Chartres Street. I think there is a movie finally being made about these women. I think Gabrielle Union & Mike Colter will star in it. I think this is the 1st film about thus legend.
