The truth about the matter of US energy independence is as follows:
While, statistically at least, the US is energy independent, producing far more crude oil than it needs, the variety of crude it produces isn’t compatible with its refineries, and hence it gets shipped off elsewhere and the US remains reliant on the rest of the world for that heavy oil.
It is first necessary to legally force the conversion of the US heavy oil refineries to light oil refineries to achieve energy independence which is the goal of President Trump. Simultaneously the Genoil technology can be rolled out to covert the residue of the light oil which is 40% of the oil on average into light oil making the US the largest net exporter of oil to the world reversing the huge trade deficit. In other words, we can increase our oil production 40% as the residue is relatively worthless used for making asphalt for roads.

The United States has the largest trade deficit in the world. In 2023, the trade deficit of this nation was $773.4 billion.

The reader will note the date of letters to the Secretary of the Treasury Robert Rubin were dated in 1997 though I have been working on this since the 1970s. My deep state colleagues would not listen. Here lies the cause of the weakening of the US as a world power.
The trading partners of he United States rigged the US currency by buying the dollars. As a result, foreign holdings of US Treasuries were $8.513 trillion in November, according to Reuters. Here lies the cause of the destruction of the United States internal industries and the demolishing of the greatest economy in world history that in 1945 had half the world GDP. The US was wrecked by traitors from within.
Donald Trump is totally correct in rolling out tariffs for the time being to begin to straighten this out.
