SHAPE OF THE EARTH
For some reason there seems to be a great many people who question the form of this Earth we are living on. I personally have my own prejudiced views of this matter, still we should be willing to discuss the form of Earth with its, mechanical, topographical, physical, cosmological and spiritual attributes. It may be that in doing so we could discover some common ground and a wider understanding of our existence.
This Earth forms the base upon which our Existence is materially expressed in this universe. It is of interest to know the form of our home but not the most significant aspect of our place in space. We should nevertheless bear in mind that we are here discussing whether this Earth is in the form of a disc or a sphere, so that our discussion and proofs should be directed toward one of those two beliefs. It may be that there is some overriding incontrovertible substantial evidence that will render this discussion moot. In as much as there are significant numbers of people who have taken opposing stands on this issue and it also seems that there are some claims of biblical evidence on both sides of this matter, we may for the sake of discussion set aside any such evidence for the time being and focus on the general causes of the difference of opinion and gradually elucidate what smaller evidences we may have.
Naturally we need to state more clearly the views of both parties. As it appears, one party claims to have cause to believe that this Earth is in the form of a disc. The other party claims to have cause to believe that this Earth exists in the form of a sphere. Whether there is some great cause that demands that one of these beliefs or the other must be adopted by all mankind is not expressed as yet.
There is one statement in the Bible to the effect that, knowing the truth will set us free, and conversely following after falsehoods will leave us bound and enslaved by the master of deception. This might be seen as a general motivation to determine the truth in this matter, as in all matters of importance, nevertheless it is not a subject that is imperative. It remains in the realm of every person to choose for himself, regardless of any proof. Therefore this discussion is a matter of common interest, without any intent to force any view upon any one.
I have spent some time searching for a clear and logical statement of the evidence supporting the claims of those who hold to the flat disc view. I was unable to find, in my search, any such clear and supported statement in behalf of those who follow the disc theory. This lack of plainly stated belief together with the entire absence of any show able evidence has acted as a default on their part in this communication.
I will endeavor not deny or admit anything regarding the verity of the disc theory of Earth, and will give below what I have discovered as some evidence of the Spherical Planet theory. Perhaps those who hold to the Disc Earth theory will be able to respond to these evidences presented here in a manner that will reflect more effectively and positively upon their own theory or beliefs.
1. One unsupported statement of a disc theorist was that builders and surveyors never have to adjust their measurements to account for the curvature of the earth.
a. Research the survey setting out the Mason Dixon Line between Pennsylvania and Maryland — Virginia.
b. Research the system of Celestial Navigation upon and over the great oceans.
c. Research the methods employed by cartographers
[Cartography is an ancient discipline that dates from the prehistoric depiction of hunting and fishing territories. The Babylonians mapped the world in a flattened, disk-shaped form, but Claudius Ptolemaeus established the basis for subsequent efforts in the 2nd century ce with his eight-volume work Geōgraphikē hyphēgēsis (Guide to Geography) that showed a spherical Earth. ]
2. Another unsupported and stated belief of the Disc Theorists was that the Sun, Moon, Planets and Stars were attached to a concave disc that rotated above the Earth and resulted in the passing of days, nights, seasons and years.
a. Research the passing of odd bodies such as random asteroids, meteors and comets.
b. Research rogue planets
c. Research the passing of seasons on the Earth
d. Study the night sky with a telescope for a while and record your observations.
3. Another of those stated beliefs of the Disc theorists was that the southern pole of the Earth was actually hidden behind a great wall of ice that stretched all around the periphery of the disc of Earth, acting as a dam to the worlds oceans.
a. Research the journeys of various explorers who have gone around and across the
Ant-Arctic continent and made carefully measured charts of it.
b. Research the requisite diameter and circumference of the Disc to account for all the land and oceans that stretch around the disc and abut the Ant-Arctic Continent,
c. Calculate dimensions and mass of that theoretical wall of ice.
4. The last of the significant claims of the Disc Theorists was that their belief was in large measure based upon the fact that NASA and other Government agencies are unreliable and frequently deceive the people of this world to lead them astray and into subjection, servitude and untimely death.
a. Decades of research into this belief has resulted in enormous and irrefutable evidence that this stated belief is well founded, absolutely supported and fully justified.
b. Show how this belief bears upon the shape of the Earth.
5. As evidence in support of the Globe Theorists the following is provided from sources as honest as God our Creator.
a. “Genesis; 1:1,2 IN the beginning God created the heaven and the earth… …And the earth was without form, and void …”
b. “Moses: 1:1 AND it came to pass that the Lord spake unto Moses, saying: Behold, I reveal unto you concerning this heaven, and this earth; write the words which I speak. I am the Beginning and the End, the Almighty God; by mine Only Begotten I created these things; yea, in the beginning I created the heaven, and the earth upon which thou standest.
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and I caused darkness to come up upon the face of the deep; and my Spirit moved upon the face of the water; for I am God.
3 And I, God, said: Let there be light; and there was light.
4 And I, God, saw the light; and that light was good. And I, God, divided the light from the darkness.
5 And I, God, called the light Day; and the darkness, I called Night; and this I did by the word of my power, and it was done as I spake; and the evening and the morning were the first day.
c. 6 And again, I, God, said: Let there be a firmament in the midst of the water, and it was so, even as I spake; and I said: Let it divide the waters from the waters; and it was done;
7 And I, God, made the firmament and divided the waters, yea, the great waters under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament, and it was so even as I spake.
8 And I, God, called the firmament Heaven; and the evening and the morning were the second day.
d. 9 And I, God, said: Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and it was so; and I, God, said: Let there be dry land; and it was so.
10 And I, God, called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters, called I the Sea; and I, God, saw that all things which I had made were good.
11 And I, God, said: Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, the fruit tree yielding fruit, after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed should be in itself upon the earth, and it was so even as I spake.
12 And the earth brought forth grass, every herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed should be in itself, after his kind; and I, God, saw that all things which I had made were good;
13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.
14 And I, God, said: Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven, to divide the day from the night, and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and for years;
15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth; and it was so.
16 And I, God, made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night, and the greater light was the sun, and the lesser lightwas the moon; and the stars also were made even according to my word.
17 And I, God, set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
18 And the sun to rule over the day, and the moon to rule over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness; and I, God, saw that all things which I had made were good;”
19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
6. D&C 130:1 WHEN the Savior shall appear we shall see him as he is. We shall see that he is a man like ourselves.
2 And that same sociality which exists among us here will exist among us there, only it will be coupled with eternal glory, which glory we do not now enjoy.
3 John 14:23—The appearing of the Father and the Son, in that verse, is a personal appearance; and the idea that the Father and the Son dwell in a man’s heart is an old sectarian notion, and is false.
4 In answer to the question—Is not the reckoning of God’s time, angel’s time, prophet’s time, and man’s time, according to the planet on which they reside?
5 I answer, Yes. But there are no angels who minister to this earth but those who do belong or have belonged to it.
6 The angels do not reside on a planet like this earth;
7 But they reside in the presence of God, on a globe like a sea of glass and fire, where all things for their glory are manifest, past, present, and future, and are continually before the Lord.
8 The place where God resides is a great Urim and Thummim.
9 This earth, in its sanctified and immortal state, will be made like unto crystal and will be a Urim and Thummim to the inhabitants who dwell thereon, whereby all things pertaining to an inferior kingdom, or all kingdoms of a lower order, will be manifest to those who dwell on it; and this earth will be Christ’s.
11 And a white stone is given to each of those who come into the celestial kingdom…
12 I prophesy, in the name of the Lord God, that the commencement of the difficulties which will cause much bloodshed previous to the coming of the Son of Man will be in South Carolina.
13 It may probably arise through the slave question. This a voice declared to me, while I was praying earnestly on the subject, December 25th, 1832.
18 Whatever principle of intelligence we attain unto in this life, it will rise with us in the resurrection.
19 And if a person gains more knowledge and intelligence in this life through his diligence and obedience than another, he will have so much the advantage in the world to come.
20 There is a law, irrevocably decreed in heaven before the foundations of this world, upon which all blessings are predicated—
21 And when we obtain any blessing from God, it is by obedience to that law upon which it is predicated.
22 The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s; the Son also; but the Holy Ghost has not a body of flesh and bones, but is a personage of Spirit. Were it not so, the Holy Ghost could not dwell in us.
23 A man may receive the Holy Ghost, and it may descend upon him and not tarry with him.
Search these things and ask that God through the Holy Ghost will confirm to you the truthfulness of these things. If you seek earnestly and humbly you will surely be blessed to know these truths that will enable you to discern between all truth and error, and thereby be made free from false creeds and deceptive teachings. You will know that our Father in heaven and our Savior Jesus Christ do indeed love you to an extent far beyond what you can fully comprehend while in this mortal world.
