In World War Two aircraft carriers were a major factor as they could knock out battleships before their guns could reach the aircraft carriers. That was the end of the battleship. They became obsolete when missiles replaced air power in naval battles though were useful to serve as an air bases in the Korean War when we were nearly driven into the sea and our land air fields were overrun. In the Iraq war one and two their power was important. Iraq did not have sufficient airplane power or missiles to knock them out. So we based them close to shore to amplify our air power. Iran does have such anti-ship missiles that can go further than an aircraft carriers planes’ without refueling and so the aircraft carrier cannot be used without being hit by anti-ship missiles. Therefore, they are a total waste.
Just as the aircraft carrier planes replaced the battleship guns, missiles have replaced the aircraft carrier. And planes require air fields, so the F-35 is really useless as the airfields that they fly from can be destroyed within five minutes for NATO in Europe as Russian advanced missiles can immediately knock them out the F-35s that are there. If they take off before the missile strikes, there will be no place to land as the air field will be destroyed.
