Islam is defined by the Holy Quran and the authentic Traditions of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. We refer to authentic Traditions because in contrast to the Holy Quran which is protected by it being consistent, the Traditions need not be consistent.
In what follows, I hope to quote from the Holy Quran only.
In the translation of the Meaning of the Holy Quran by Abdullah Yusuf Ali, the first translation approved by the experts in Medina, Saudi Arabia, the word ‘compulsion’ occurs four times.

For this discussion, we consider the Verses 255, 256,and 257 of Chapter 2 of the Holy Quran.

Allah! There is no god but He,-the Living, the Self-subsisting, Eternal. No slumber can seize Him nor sleep. His are all things in the heavens and on earth. Nor shall they compass aught of His knowledge except as He willeth. His Throne doth extend over the heavens and the earth, and He feeleth no fatigue in guarding and preserving them for He is the Most High, the Supreme (in glory).

Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error: whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And Allah heareth and knoweth all things.

Allah is the Protector of those who have faith: from the depths of darkness He will lead them forth into light. Of those who reject faith the patrons are the evil ones: from light they will lead them forth into the depths of darkness. They will be companions of the fire, to dwell therein (For ever).

The link displays other translations also, but the discussion uses the quoted meanings. GOD is Allah in the Holy Quran; Holy Father in the Holy Bible; and Yahweh in the Holy Torah referring to the same entity.
From Verse 257 we know that God is aware of all of our actions, but does not punish in this life because He Gave ‘free will’ to us. Further God Leads us to light from darkness.
We believe that the following bad events happened because of the ‘free will.’

The above is a bad event because it ended the caliphate. Abdulaziz was advised by Abdul Wahab and the result was wahabism that k----d other Muslims who did not follow Abdul Wahab’s interpretation of Islam. Such actions of k-----g some Muslims and non-Muslims by those claiming to represent Islam is against Verse 256 of Chapter 2 of the Holy Quean.
Thus the actions of King Abdulaziz and all the rulers of Saudi Arabia violated Verse 256. After Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was saved by President Trump and the White Hats, the Crown Prince is working against corruption and child s-------e. So actions that happened with the support of the followers of Abdul Wahab are not Islamic as the actions violate Verse 256 of Chapter 2 of the Holy Quran.
What about the Catholics?

Yet We bestowed, on those among them who believed, their (due) reward, but many of them are rebellious transgressors.

The Catholics rejected the teachings of Prophet Jesus, son of Mary, peace be upon them by insisting on celibacy but ended up torturing children.
Islam cannot be coupled to Catholic philosophy; Islam offers ‘free will’ and does not constrain except from sins.
