THE COUNTERFEIT CAPITAL
An alternate-history thriller
Premise: An occupying foreign order constructs Washington, DC, as an elaborate imitation of a free republic. Behind its monuments and patriotic ceremonies, generations of rulers replace lawful government with counterfeit authority—teaching Americans to mistake obedience for liberty.
The Captive Republic
By 2016, the occupation needs no visible army. Manufactured debt, engineered divisions, chemical dependence, scripted news and endless foreign wars keep the people exhausted and distracted. Children memorize the language of freedom while learning to fear exercising it.
The First Awakening
A military archivist discovers the capital’s original construction plans. Beneath its familiar streets lies a second city – and records revealing the foreign order’s uninterrupted command. When she attempts to expose them, her identity disappears from every government database. A dying colleague leaves one instruction: “Find the man who refused the crown.”
The Revolution of 2016
She finds a retired commander who once rejected an invitation into the ruling order. His first broadcast asks a question that spreads across America: “Who gave these men authority over your conscience?” The Second American Revolutionary War begins as a struggle over memory, truth and allegiance. The regime responds with blackouts, disappearances and carefully staged emergencies.
Ten Years Through the Fog
From 2016 to 2026, families rebuild forbidden archives, veterans reveal the purposes of wars they fought, and former enemies compare the lies used to divide them. Churches, workshops and kitchen tables become places of reeducation. As the occupation’s demonic warlords emerge from behind their respectable faces, the people remember who – and Whose – they are.
The Last Inauguration
United around the reluctant commander, a modern George Washington, Americans converge on the capital as insiders prepare to release the occupation’s complete records. The warlords offer him absolute power in exchange for preserving their system. He must choose before the broadcast begins.
He breaks their ceremonial seal and walks outside to stand among the people.

Dawn reaches the monuments. For the first time, the voice coming from the capital asks for the people’s consent.
All they constructed collapses – with only the ruth that sets us free, remaining for us all.
