The Snake’s Last Breath
By Reset Intelligence | @EXIT_FIAT
The loudest thing Iraq did this week made no noise at all. It happened in a conference room in Geneva.
While Washington strips the regime next door of its money account by account, Baghdad spent the week asking to be let back into the club that decides whether a currency is worth trading.
Geneva
Iraq’s trade delegation sat in Geneva this week working the fourth round of its accession to the World Trade Organization, after 16 years locked outside the door. They met the deputy director-general and the delegates of member states, with Washington pushing the room to move faster. A country does not get walked to that table to be sent home.
The Ayatollah’s money
On camera this week the Treasury Secretary called what he is running against Iran economic fury. Treasury says it has found the money man for the Ayatollah, that it is tracking Khamenei’s personal properties around the world, and that it means to publish the addresses. The rial sits at an all-time low.
The strait turns on Baghdad
The waterway Iran has choked since February has started biting Iraq, the one neighbor still tied to the regime by shared oil geography. Indian refiners backed away from Iraqi crude rather than cross the strait, and Iraq’s own state oil marketer went back to buying fuel for the first time in 18 months. The pieces worth watching:
• WTO accession – fourth negotiating round in Geneva, the United States pressing to accelerate it
• Treasury’s economic war – a $130 million IRGC crypto wallet frozen, close to $1 billion in Iranian crypto seized in total, the rial in freefall
• Iraq-Turkey pipeline treaty – lapses July 27, held open by a one-year stopgap that is still unsigned
• Tehran visit – Iraq’s prime minister lands in Tehran Thursday to press Iran on disarming its armed factions before the September 30 deadline
That is the short version. The public moves, on the record. What they connect to, and what it all means for the dinar, is the daily read.
