THE LAKE COTE ENIGMA (1971)
They Were Mapping a Sacred Lake for a Dam… and Accidentally Photographed an NHI Craft Emerging From the Water.
On September 4, 1971, at ~8:25 a.m., during a routine Costa Rican National Geographic Institute aerial survey at 10,000 feet over Lake Cote (for the Arenal hydroelectric project), their high-precision cartographic camera captured something extraordinary in just one single frame.
A smooth, metallic, reflective disc, estimated 120–220 ft across, appears hovering near or over the lake’s surface. It is absent from the frames taken seconds before and after.
The crew saw nothing visually with their own eyes. The original negative has remained in official government archives ever since.
Expert analyses (including Dr. Jacques Vallée and Dr. Richard Haines) concluded it was not a double-exposure, fabrication, bird, plane, or conventional object. High-resolution drum scans released around the 50th anniversary made the details even clearer. Lake Cote is considered a sacred “portal” site by the indigenous Maleku people.
This remains one of the highest-quality, chain-of-custody UFO/UAP photographs ever taken, pre-digital, government mission, single anomalous frame.
