THE CHRONOVISOR MYSTERY: How the Vatican Banned a Time Machine That “Never Existed”
In May 1972, the Italian newspaper Domenica del Corriere shocked the world with a headline that read: “A Machine That Photographs the Past Has Been Invented.”
The creator of the device, called the Chronovisor, was Father Pellegrino Ernetti – a respected Benedictine monk, linguist, and physicist.
Together with a team of 12 leading scientists – reportedly including nuclear reactor pioneer Enrico Fermi and rocket engineer Wernher von Braun – he allegedly developed a machine capable of capturing the residual electromagnetic energy of past events and displaying them on a screen like a television.
What did they claim to see?
According to Ernetti’s testimony:
• Full military triumphs of Ancient Rome.
• Cicero’s famous speech before the Senate in 63 BC.
• The final days and crucifixion of Jesus Christ (Ernetti claimed to have personally witnessed these events on the screen).
• The lost ancient tragedy Thyestes by the poet Quintus Ennius (the monk even recorded its text).
Why Did the Project Disappear?
According to the official story, Ernetti became frightened by his own invention.
The Chronovisor would have made privacy impossible – no state secrets, no personal lives, no hidden history. The device was allegedly dismantled voluntarily, and its blueprints were classified.

Skeptics quickly dismissed the story as a hoax, pointing to inconsistencies in the alleged image of Christ and flaws in the linguistic analysis of the recovered play.
The story should have ended there – except for one detail.
The Vatican’s Greatest Paradox
In 1988, the Holy See allegedly issued an official decree (No. 151/88).
According to the claim, anyone using devices with capabilities similar to the Chronovisor to reveal secrets of the past would face automatic excommunication (latae sententiae) – one of the most severe penalties in the Catholic Church.
This is where conspiracy theorists raise an obvious question:
Why would one of the most powerful religious institutions on Earth officially and strictly prohibit a technology that, according to scientists, never existed in the first place?
Was it an attempt to cover up the truth – or genuine fear that humanity might gain unrestricted access to its own hidden history?
Some researchers believe that the original blueprints and remaining components of the Chronovisor are still stored within the Vatican Secret Archives to this day.

The question remains:
Was Father Ernetti responsible for one of the greatest hoaxes of the twentieth century, or is the Vatican truly concealing a technology capable of rewriting human history?
