Cuba Is In The Process Of Being Liberated
Cuba is not “about to be liberated” in some polite diplomatic fairy tale. It is being strangled into submission through maximum economic pressure, targeted sanctions, and the quiet positioning of contingency options that could flip the island from a communist fortress into a post-regime transition zone. Trump’s team has turned the screws hard since January 2026, and the regime is cracking under the weight.
The Current Hammer
On May 1, 2026, Trump signed Executive Order 14404, imposing broad sanctions on those responsible for repression and threats to U.S. national security.
Days later, the State Department and Treasury hit GAESA (the Cuban military’s economic conglomerate that controls tourism, imports, and much of the island’s hard currency), along with regime elites, intelligence officials, and security apparatus figures. Secondary sanctions now threaten any foreign entity or bank that keeps the regime afloat.
This is not gentle persuasion it is economic asphyxiation. Fuel shortages have triggered nationwide blackouts lasting 20+ hours, hospitals are rationing care, and the population is cooking with firewood in the streets. The regime’s lifeline from Venezuela was already cut; Russian shadow fleet deliveries are sporadic and insufficient.
The Real Playbook
This is the Venezuela template on steroids. After Maduro’s removal, Cuba lost its primary oil benefactor. The administration is now systematically isolating the Castro-linked military elite that runs the island like a criminal enterprise.
Indictments against Raúl Castro and other top figures are unsealed or imminent, creating legal pretexts for further action. Military contingency planning is active in the Caribbean reconnaissance flights, naval positioning, and special operations mapping of key nodes.
The goal is not immediate boots-on-the-ground invasion (though that option sits on the table). It is regime collapse through internal pressure, defections among mid-level officers, and controlled transition that prevents a failed-state chaos on America’s doorstep.
