Same day, Iran’s Foreign Minister landed in Saint Petersburg. Putin. Lavrov. The Russian uranium-custody offer still on the table. Trump rejected the same offer in March.

Iran’s Speaker of Parliament answered Trump in public over the weekend.

Iraq’s PM-designate Ali al-Zaidi is being announced today at Baghdad Palace.
The wire is calling him a “businessman” and a “compromise.”
Three signatures on the deal nobody’s reading.
• Al-Zaidi leads Al-Janoob Islamic Bank. In February 2024 the Central Bank of Iraq kicked eight Iraqi banks off the dollar auction for moving dollars to Iran. Al-Janoob was on that list. The ban followed Brian Nelson’s Treasury visit to Baghdad. Al-Huda Bank, same list, was separately sanctioned by US Treasury for funneling billions to Iran-backed militias.
• The deal was brokered at the residence of Faleh al-Fayyad, chairman of the Popular Mobilization Forces. Al-Fayyad is personally sanctioned by US Treasury under Global Magnitsky since January 8, 2021. The Treasury press release names him as part of an IRGC-Quds Force crisis cell that suppressed Iraqi protesters in 2019.
• The kingmaker producing al-Zaidi’s name was Faiq Zaidan, chief judge of Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council, who blocked Maliki’s comeback months ago.

Same week Treasury halted dollar shipments to CBI. Same week Operation Economic Fury extended to Iraq. Same week Qaani flew to Baghdad in person.
Why pick a man this exposed?
Because he is the cleanest enforcement target the corridor has ever produced. Treasury can sanction the bank, the holding company, the broker, the militia files, without ever sanctioning the office. The architecture surfaces at the price of a businessman, not a head of state.
