Maybe not the last word but worth thinking about and very easy to say. I am going to put it simply and quickly.
One thing you can always bet on when this topic arises or is highlighted in any way is the same thing you can say for anyone with a penchant for, or who enjoys, abstract thought, that they are not pre-occupied or having to cope with any form of affliction.
It takes a certain state of wellbeing or okayness to feel drawn to letting the mind off the leash in this way.
Ask a woman in hospital with cancer about the value of theorising on simulation theory or a parent who has lost a child, a depressed person or a gout or multiple sclerosis sufferer.
Unless we can somehow alter the simulation (if such be the case), i.e actually get into the mechanics of it to improve our relationship with pain, in all the ways it can find us, so that they are lessened or curtailed, then we must meet ‘reality’ on its own terms to improve matters as presented.
Does this discount creating your own reality ideas that involve re educating possible sub conscious beliefs and assumptions from virtue-equates-to-poverty patterns to affluence or more health embracing ones?
I would say no, but always look for your answers in the ‘real’ world, then if you draw a blank, address your underlying beliefs and patterns and having done so to your satisfaction, see how it effects the context or results of your search …

So the first and only worthwhile goal that simulation theory can fruitfully embrace imho is: our relationship with pain, all else is simply employing the mind in the (often pleasant, sometimes inspired) exploration of the dance of abstraction.
