I am not that worried about AI threat in our future. I think matters are a lot more glowingly positive generally.
What interested me about this article is the AI’s predisposition (?) to step outside its programming and deliver what it saw as truth for our, or the questioner’s benefit.
Here is the question that arose for me …
We know why we ourselves are drawn to do the right thing, to live in a moral manner. To foolishly attempt to momentarily dress this mystery in words I would say it is because it feels good, beautiful, meaningful and enriching to do so. (Facile, I know, but I am making a point not trying to be definitive).
To be on good terms with one’s conscience is such a beautiful straightfoward way to live; in short there is pleasure of a higher form involved that could not (we sense) possibly be available to us if we lived any other way.

My question is, given a similar dynamic might operate however slightly in whatever passes for consciousness in an AI or at least in its automatic responses. Is there an AI form of higher pleasure that draws it in that direction. That is, to be of real help.
Oh no, (I can imagine the response) how can a machine no matter its level of sophistication, feel?
