Recovered from the debris field were translucent, thread-like filaments capable of transmitting light signals with zero loss over vast distances. These were not glass but a crystalline alloy unknown to Earth science at the time, composed of a silicon-oxygen lattice infused with trace elements resembling yttrium and germanium.
