Mission Overview:
On June 19, 1986, the 334th Spetsnaz Detachment, a 40-man elite unit under the Soviet GRU, was deployed to Kunar Province, Afghanistan, near the town of Asadabad, as part of Operation Silent Harvest. The mission objective was to investigate reports of a clandestine chemical weapons program operated by Afghan mujahideen, supported by rogue elements of the Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Intelligence indicated that a remote village, Kala Dara, had been used as a testing ground for a chemical agent codenamed “Nekro-4,” developed to incapacitate Soviet forces but resulting in catastrophic unintended effects. The detachment, armed with AK-74 rifles, PKM machine guns, RPG-7 rocket launchers, and RGD-5 grenades, inserted via Mi-8 helicopters at 0200 hours on June 19. What follows is a raw, unfiltered account of the gruesome encounter with villagers transformed into frenzied, flesh-eating entities, as documented by surviving Spetsnaz operatives.
