No, this is not a press release. I’ll leave that to Notre Dame’s communications office. Rather, it’s a simple statement and assumption of the obvious. I wanted to be the first to hog the honor of announcing it.
President Donald Trump will be Notre Dame’s commencement speaker next year, a presidential campaign year no less.

As the famed Notre Dame cathedral in Paris burned, President Donald Trump, watching the news of the fire live on Fox News aboard Air Force One, took to Twitter to offer some advice.
“So horrible to watch the massive fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris,” the President tweeted. “Perhaps flying water tankers could be used to put it out. Must act quickly!” After landing, Trump added: “When we left the plane it was burning at a level that you rarely see a fire burn.”

The weekend’s celebration, which drew an estimated 50 world leaders and high security, kicks off an octave of events marking the restoration of the famous twelfth-century Gothic church to its place in Catholic liturgical life and French tourism following a devastating April 15, 2019 fire. Firefighters stood helpless as the blaze — believed to have been accidentally ignited by an electrical failure or a lit cigarette — consumed the roof and spire of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Seemingly thwarting their efforts to douse the flames with water was a centuries’ old waterproofing technique involving covering the roof with a lead sheet.

Vice President-elect JD Vance won’t skip his inauguration to watch Ohio State in the national championship, but he’s rooting for the powers that be to reschedule the game.
Vance will take the oath of office alongside President-elect Donald Trump Jan. 20, hours before Ohio State faces Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff final in Atlanta. The former Ohio senator graduated from Ohio State University in 2009, calling that part of his life “put-up-or-shut-up time” in his memoir, “Hillbilly Elegy.”
