ALTERNATIVE TIME LINE
FOR THE DAYS PRECEDING THE 2ND ADVENT OF THE SAVIOR
The Scriptures indicate that every word which the Lord has spoken through His ordained Prophets, will be fulfilled. In our study of the scriptures we can see the many essential signs that have yet to be fulfilled in our views. Lately there are some students of the scriptures who are saying that some things may not occur exactly as we expect, pursuant to our understanding of those prophetic utterances. We may ask how can those things be duly prophesied and then fail to happen?
When we read or listen, carefully, we may notice the phrase many times included in those utterances, “…Except they repent…”, or “… if they fail to repent…”. I think this is the Lords fail-safe disclaimer. Poor old Jonah got a full revelation of this point. The Lord wanted the people of Nineveh to avoid being destroyed. He told them through his Prophet, Jonah, that if they did not quickly repent of their wicked ways they would be suddenly destroyed. Jonah told them this fact, hoping that he would be able to see the destruction of those wicked people. He was disappointed when they took his words seriously and even by royal decree, were led to truly repent of their errors.
Lately the Prophets have been telling us that the Lord is Hastening His work. But we have not been seeing the destruction of great numbers of people, guilty of terrible sins. How could the Lord move his program along at an accelerated pace with a great load of unrepentant sinners in tow. Is it possible that the disclaimer is an actual part of those prophesies? Is it possible that more people have truly repented of their sins than we know of, enough to make a difference, in the Lord’s timeline? It is a hopeful thought. With this hastening of his work the Lord may be returning through the clouds of heaven very soon, even “…at a time when ye think not…”.
