Scientists are designing an “Interstellar Generational Spaceship,” a self-sustaining vessel for 1,000 people on a 250-year mission to explore distant stars.
Project Hyperion, led by the Initiative for Interstellar Studies, is calling on architects, engineers, and social scientists to create designs that ensure Earth’s gravity, atmosphere, and societal needs are maintained onboard.
The design must address physical, social, and cultural needs for multiple generations to thrive during the journey. This ambitious project wants to create a spacecraft as both a research hub and a living ecosystem for its inhabitants.
