I very rarely relate my dreams to the public as I feel they are personal and can only be “gotten” by the individual, because dream language is so difficult to relay with any meaningful insight in the language of the waking world. However, like Juan O Savin and his dream about “Silvery Threads and Purim Dreams,” in chapter 4 of “The Kid by the Side of the Road,” which details the stolen election of Biden/Harris that fails to nail the landing in a church, I felt strongly enough about the worldly significance of this dream, after the fact, to relate it here.

In the dream I was cleaning spiders and their webs out of a childhood house with a powerful water gun. Although in waking life I never k--l spiders, I either put them outside or leave them be, in this dream the cleaning was intensive and thorough and all done with a water jet. The constructions of these spiders (of all shapes and sizes, some bizarre and even alien looking) were incredibly elaborate. I felt a kind of dispassionate consideration for them in that their worlds were coming to an end, but this was a cleaning, in the service of my parents, that needed to take place. None of the spiders were squashed, I might add, it was water alone that was clearing them away, and presumably some of them could live if they did not drown in the flood, so to speak, and could make it outside of the house.

The cleaning started in the garage, where the most extensive networks were, and then moved into the house proper. My Father was with me in the garage, but he was overseeing things and not involved with the spiders and the water gun, yet he saw what was taking place and was making arrangements around what I was doing. Inside the house, as we addressed the spiders there, I recall telling him that if he thought the spiders in the house were crazy, he should have seen the ones in the garage. All the while, I had a kind of caring for the spiders, in the sense that they had their own strange and fascinating existence, too, and they did serve their purpose, but somehow this cleaning was decreed from above, as the end of an era. In a way, I’m relating that I felt sorry for them, but that’s not quite the accurate emotion. It wasn’t an emotion that was neutral, either, or even scared of the spiders, but one that was closer to recognizing them during the process with a certain consideration for them, while also washing them away with the water gun. One particular spider in the house was unusually large and alien looking and fought back against the stream, coming right at the hose. If there was any spider to be afraid of, this was the one, but I just watched as the insides of its body filled up with water. Again, none of the spiders were being k----d by any other means but the water. And even with this one spider, I remember thinking, if it can survive the water then it can get away. But the general sense was that none of these old spiders and their web networks were actually going to get away. It was a thorough cleaning.

As far as the house itself, it was either a spring cleaning or the house was getting ready to be sold. Inside the house, my Mother was there and the one remark I recall from her was about the drapes, which were getting wet, along with everything else, as the last of the spiders were being washed away. She wasn’t upset, she knew it was necessary what we were doing, but she said something to the effect that the drapes were vintage and would take 24 hours to dry out in the sun. As I was finishing the job, I had a mindfulness towards all of the spiders and their webs that had been lost in this process and I said to either my parents or myself: “It’s a day of reckoning for spiders.”

With that, I woke up. The first overall feeling I had was that a good and necessary job had been done. I also felt a little bit bad for the spiders. It wasn’t a dream where there was any real fear of them, per se, as one might imagine. There were elements of fascination and even disgust in the lairs they had built up, but at other times even an appreciation of them and somewhat feeling bad that I had to wipe them all out with the water gun. In waking life, actual spiders, not dream ones, do serve a positive purpose, and as I mentioned above, I never k--l them, I just put them outside or let them do their thing. In the dream, I had a thought towards the end that some young spiders will now come back to the house and serve the positive purpose of the spiders themselves. But it was understood somehow that all the old spiders and their networks time had come. Dream interpretations based on particular elements can mean many things, so the feeling within the dream as to what took place is the most important aspect. The sense in the dream was that overall good and necessary work was being done, though spider lives were lost in the process, and it was somehow appropriate to also feel bad about that. Also, upon waking, there was the definite sense that “real” work had been done somewhere or somehow which was not merely symbolic or simply “all just a dream.”

There was one last addendum or coda in the dream. As my Father and I picked up the last sofa to check for spiders and spray it down, we found these odd creatures, not really insects, though that was the category of things we were cleaning for, and was, I guess, the general realm in which they existed. They stood upright and had little brown bodies. They were strange and even a little cute and there was a pack of them, like a family. I thought to spray them down like the rest of everything else that was getting the water treatment, but I stopped. My Father knew what they were and said he remembered them from his childhood. So, we let them live and I didn’t spray them with the water, even though I had almost started to. Maybe they were able to come out now that the spiders were gone, is what I thought. It was then that I made the statement about the “day of reckoning for spiders” that ended the dream.

After waking up and making some coffee, I went looking for an interpretation for this dream, since it had, like the rare powerful dreams you get everyone once in a while, a kind of significance which stands out against the standard dreams of every night, and even against some of the more intense ones. The overall feeling of it was of an “end of an era” and also of transformation. It was not without a sense of care for the spiders, too, I might add. And also, it was WATER that was doing the work. I felt that there was something very considerable about that. Even Biblical. After looking around online and relating to some aspects of some of the interpretations, I found a passage which completed the search for meaning in my mind. It is below.

“So is the end of everyone who forgets God,
and so shall the hope of the godless perish.
His confidence is but a gossamer thread,
his trust is a spider’s house.
He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand;
he shall cling to it, but it shall not endure.”
Job 8:13-15
