The 2008 Obama presidential election victory was an amazing exhibition of marketing and product branding:
Make no mistake: if John McCain is elected, the fundamental direction of this country that we love will not change. But if we come together, we have an historic opportunity to chart a new course, a better course.
It is my firm intention — once I’m sworn in as president — to have my Attorney General conduct a comprehensive review of all our surveillance programs, and to make further recommendations on any steps needed to preserve civil liberties and to prevent executive branch a---e in the future.

President Obama didn’t follow through on that promise. Did he?
Thank you, Edward Snowden, Glenn Greenwald, Laura Poitras. Without you, we’d never have found out that, in Edward Snowden’s own words, the US National Security Agency (NSA) was “building a system whose goal is the elimination of all privacy, globally. To make it so that no one can communicate electronically without the NSA being able to collect, store, and analyze the communication.”
Unfortunately, it seems that government surveillance has moved to the private sector (social media platforms), but this time few seem to care.

It’s important to bear in mind I’m being called a traitor by men like former Vice President Dick Cheney. This is a man who gave us the warrantless wiretapping scheme as a kind of atrocity warm-up on the way to deceitfully engineering a conflict that has k----d over 4,400 and maimed nearly 32,000 Americans, as well as leaving over 100,000 Iraqis dead.
