Why is Newt Gingrich so often blamed for the erosion of the American political system?  How can one man be blamed for starting the corruption of American politics that has led to the current state of things?

Consider this:

Newt Gingrich entered the House of Representatives in 1979, the new congressman from Georgia’s 6th congressional district. Born in 1943, Gingrich would have been 36 years old. From the beginning Gingrich viewed politics as warfare, and he slowly began to build a group of like-minded Congressmen who opposed the senior Republicans in Congress who played by the old school norms of civility and bipartisan cooperation.

Taking advantage of a new media outlet, C-SPAN, Gingrich deliberately made public speeches (not to a nearly-empty House floor, but to television cameras) using a deliberately over-the-top style of language. A style of language we’re all quite familiar with today.  Former Georgia state Democratic Party leader Steve Anthony once said, “the things that came out of Gingrich’s mouth…we had never heard that before from either side. Gingrich went so far over the top that the shock factor rendered the opposition frozen for a few years.”

It was the beginning of a seismic shift in American politics. When Gingrich became Speaker of the House in 1995, the GOP adopted its “no negotiation, no compromise” position, and sought victory by “any means necessary.”

Anything to win.

It was Gingrich who led the House to vote in December 1998 to impeach President Bill Clinton (only the second presidential impeachment in US history).  It was pure politics.  The investigation started with the Whitewater inquiry, which was completely dead-ended, and ultimately centered on President Clinton’s testimony about an extramarital affair.  Nothing  was ever revealed that came close to meeting the standards for what constitute “high crimes and misdemeanors.”  President Clinton was acquitted in the US Senate of all charges in February 1999.

But the sorting of the American electorate into liberal Democrats and conservative Republicans doesn’t explain the depth of partisan hostility that has since emerged in America. Voters are ideologically sorted in Britain, Canada, Germany, and Sweden, but in none of these countries do we see the kind of partisan hatred we now see in America.

Anything to win.

In my opinion, that’s the nature of US politics; it’s what American “democracy” has become. It will only get worse.

And this year’s US Presidential election is fascinating to watch because it puts on display just how far both American political parties will go to win.

Show the entire watching world that “anything to win” is the new American Way.  (oh, that’s a winning move, America)

And, by the way, that’s how assassins, saboteurs, and terrorists play the game.

Anything to win.

Game on.

As for the prosecution of Trump, for us [Russia] what is happening in today’s conditions, in my opinion, is good because it shows all the rottenness of the American political system, which cannot pretend to teach others democracy.

Everything that’s happening with Trump is politically motivated persecution of one’s political rival, that’s what it is. And it’s being done before the eyes of the U.S. public and the whole world. They’ve simply exposed their internal problems.
