Scientists have developed a method to divert lightning strikes using a large, car-sized laser. On top of a Swiss mountain, a car-sized laser has helped guide lightning from the sky to the ground.
This technology has the potential to protect buildings, infrastructure, and people from the destructive effects of lightning strikes. The laser system works by ionizing the air, creating a path for the lightning to follow away from its intended target.
The research aims to improve lightning protection methods and reduce the risks associated with severe weather events.
If scientists can redirect lightning strikes to safeguard infrastructure, could they also possess the capability to do the opposite?
