German Government with Budget Freeze

What is it about?

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the German government had planned new borrowing in the budget for various measures to contain the pandemic. Note: not existing funds, but debt rights. Rights to take out new loans to finance measures against the pandemic. Now that the pandemic is officially over and the new emergency is the climate emergency, the federal government had planned these funds, or rather these new borrowing rights, for countless climate protection measures.

In other words, reallocated for the intended purpose.

All possible climate protection measures are affected by this. whether it’s subsidies for new heating systems, which according to the law every German house should actually receive, or wind farms or mandatory solar roofs – the list is endless.

And now, a few days ago, the federal constitutional court (actually a very misleading name, since Germany has no constitution at all, but only a constitution) decided that the reallocation of these new borrowing rights to the area of climate protection is not legal and must be avoided.

At a time, mind you, when the financial plans of all ministries, including these funds, had long been decided and finalized.

Today, a state secretary in the federal ministry of finance has issued a simple letter to his ministerial colleagues, imposing an immediate and absolute budget freeze on all German ministries.

RIEN NE VAS PLUS in Germany

How this development will continue is not yet foreseeable. however, the misery is quite obviously considerably greater than the 60 billion that has been cut.

Due to programs not being carried out, subsidies are lacking elsewhere, while in turn there is a lack of revenue from taxes in the third place, which will not come because the corresponding projects cannot be ramped up.

The entire financial structure of the federal government’s budget is out of joint hence the very drastic step taken by the ministry of finance.

As we can see, there are some parallels between the USA and Germany.

It could well be that such gross misplanning has crept in here with, we would like to point out once again, actions that have been ruled “illegal” by the court, that a national bankruptcy could be in the offing.

This would undoubtedly be a very extreme development, but it is already happening anyway. an overnight budget freeze for all ministries… that’s tough stuff.

We can probably expect that the government has come under considerable pressure and will continue to do so,

We can also expect the opposition to pick up on this tidbit and exploit it to the full.

We can perhaps even hope that some of the government’s heads will roll, maybe Habeck, maybe Scholz, but… I don’t want to spoil the joy of such thoughts, but: who will be the successor?

Baerbock as chancellor, for example or will von der Leyen come back because she got it too hot in brussels or Wagenknecht, who regularly donates large sums of money to the Antifa?

Honestly: no matter which face you choose… It won’t be an improvement…
