STARVATION STATION (The modern farm)
Twenty or twenty five years back I was an Owner/Operator Trucker leased to hauling hopper trailer loads of anything that could be loaded and discharged from a hopper trailer. I’ve hauled chemicals (powdered and granular, of course), dried manure, cereal grains, processed animal feeds, sand, and – – well, anything that can be loaded and discharged from my trailer, but lots of cereal grains.
One day I was dispatched to load corn from a farm in eastern Washington State, no big deal. I’ve done this many times before, but this time it was different. I pulled into their load out facility and they said, “Driver, relax, we’ll take it from here.” So, they climbed into my trailer and fully inspected it and CLEANED an already clean trailer and blew it out with an air hose.
The loading seemed normal. They made sure I was not overweight, closed my rollover tarp and placed a lock and seal on it. Then, they placed a lock and seal on all 3 of my hopper bottom doors. Well, that’s a first for me.
I hauled to my destination at a port on the Mississippi River where the unloading process was as strange as the loading. They inspected the external of my trailer, removed the locks, and broke the seals. Unloading was normal, only they opened it up, not me. Quickly, I was emptied and they climbed into all 3 compartments, swept them out, and visually made sure there was not even one grain of corn left in the apparatus. O.K., I made my delivery.
Outside the facility I asked one of the workers why all the CIA/FBI type of “spooky” crap. He said, “They do this so they can get 2 crops per year of this special corn to have it ready for planting.” Alright, others do this. They transport down the Mississippi to South America, plant it, harvest it, and the next crop is back in North America for planting next season. They get 2 crops per year that way.
Then, he explained it to me. He said, “You see, this corn will grow just like any other corn. It will look good and taste good. But, if you plant this corn as a small percentage mixed with other corn, that entire corn crop will be sterile. If you replant any of that mixed crop it will rot in the ground and not take root.” I said, “Man, that’s serious.” He said, “Yeah, that could be scattered across the “corn belt” from 40,000 feet up and you’d have a massive crop – – not failure, cause it could still be used, but SEED STERILITY for an entire region.” I think I can hear the apocalyptic hooves of the “famine” horse.What I said is True.
