18th Amendment

This is the Amendment that banned the manufacture of any intoxicating liquors for beverage purposes, ratified on January 16, 1919 with Woodrow Wilson.

This was not to help and stop people from getting drunk and taking actions to harm people, but it was basically to ban the manufacture of any alternate alcoholic mixtures for the use of replacing gasoline for motor vehicles, thus the USA would lose out on that taxation revenue if this was not ratified.

This Amendment was removed and replaced with the 21st Amendment that repealed this Amendment, so it is already gone.

Yes, this was the big boom of the Ford Motor Company with less expensive assembly line cars, the Ford Model T the most popular, where the general public could afford one, so why not make your own fuel. That was green energy back then, fuel made from natural food not crude oil.

This was called the time of ‘Prohibition’ where bootleggers gained in numbers, were treated like gang members and sent to jail if caught.

It was ratified by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several States within seven years as it took just over one year from date of submission.

18th Amendment
Section 1

After one year from the ratification of this article the manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors within, the importation thereof into, or the exportation thereof from the United States and all territory subject to the jurisdiction thereof for beverage purposes is hereby prohibited.

Section 2

The Congress and the several States shall have concurrent power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

Section 3

This article shall be inoperative unless it shall have been ratified as an amendment to the Constitution by the legislatures of the several States, as provided in the Constitution, within seven years from the date of the submission hereof to the States by the Congress.
