Thoughts On A Spring Morning
I see it first behind my eyelids,
a change of light, a blurry brightness prying at my eyes. Wake up!
I feel it on my skin. The sun a balm, smoothing away winter’s roughness.
I unwrap my spirit’s coat. I am glowing.
I smell it now. The sharp sweetness
of a thousand hidden blossoms, God flung or man planted. I can breathe again.
My blood sings an ancient song, lost to me in the winter. A thawing song, a sensual secret whispered by life. I am warmed with hope.
My bones are firmer, I know it.
My muscles ache to stretch. My spirit peels away hidden layers,
an artichoke with its heart exposed.
I hear it now, an insistent hum. A change of tone in the earth’s vibratory song.
Come out of your cave. Winter’s over.
