Is Santa Claus real?
There are two basic philosophies…
That the character is fictional, designed for the economic interests of the world, to hype up spending money.
Right there, we have a fictional character who is figuring into this world to the tune of billions of dollars per year.
That is pretty damn real.
Then there is the fact we see him with our own eyes everywhere. Ringing bells for charities, talking to our 4-year-old at the mall, in TV advertising that is often about goodwill, charity and cheer. That Santa or those Santas really do seem to exist on a metaphysical level that influences everyday perceptions, moods and the myth takes on an almost real demonstrable real-world momentum.
Miracle on 34th street had a judge and the United States post office throw their weight behind the idea that one man playing Santa at Macy’s department store was in fact, sane.
I say this to draw a contrast between Kim and Santa.
Do I believe what she is selling?
Do I believe this world is full of Mr. Potters and Scrooges with way too much power?
Do I believe my own cynicism is driving me nuts?
Do I believe white hats are saving “millions” of children from underground tunnels?
Do I believe the latest “intel” from airheaded bloggers that got it from Charlie Ward, directly at his hotel at the big convention?
I think Kim should leave milk and cookies out for the generals and see if that draws them to Durango for a meeting.
Belief is what you believe.
