I found out why Lady Justice wears a blindfold. It’s not what you think. It’s because she doesn’t want to look at the FACTS. Our so called “legal system” does not work for us “common” people.
I filed for bankruptcy back in April last year. I was under the impression it would give me a “fresh start”. I had some credit card debt in a debt reconciliation program with a law firm out of N.Y. After a year and a half they had done nothing but take my money. I decided it was easier to just pay for a chapter 7 bankruptcy rather than continuing to pay for services I was not receiving. So, I hired a bankruptcy attorney to do the filing. All went well until the trustee that was assigned to my case decided that my husband and I should not be allowed to own our home. The only reason why we own our home is so we could downsize and retire without a mortgage payment. In spite of the fact that we had paid the law firm in N.Y. almost 10K and the trustee managed to get back near 7K of it, the trustee kept 3K as his “commission”. This trustee decided to lie on the paperwork he submitted to the court (I can prove it) and then proceeded to extort money out of us, under the threat of forcing the sale of our house and making us homeless. At this point in time, my bankruptcy attorney tried to pawn me off on another attorney, threw me under the bus and abandoned me unless I gave him a minimum of 5K, which I did not have and could not get. The judge just “rubber stamped” everything the trustee submitted. NOBODY ever asked me to prove the information was wrong, they just continued to drag me through the mud. I now have a bankruptcy against my name and I have paid out thousands of dollars (I had to borrow from a family member) more than I owed in the first place. I am in worse financial shape now. I even contacted another attorney to see if I could go after him for malpractice and I was told that I should feel “lucky” that I came through a bankruptcy and still own a home, very few lawyers want to go after another lawyer and malpractice suits are very costly. My takeaway from this is that a trustee or a lawyer can lie about you and ruin your life but if you do the same thing, you will wind up in jail. At a minimum, this man needs to be investigated, since it appears that he likes to prey on seniors and disabled people in order to enrich himself. One of the reviews about him online says that he is a crook and should be disbarred. My sentiments exactly!
