Well I have a small confession to make. In the wake of a friend who had a small winning betting on the previous election, I decided to make a similar investment on the most popular candidate for the last one – and seriously, it was no great feat of intuition to discern who that was, just like you don’t need a bucketload of psychic power to see who is still the most popular of the two runners.
Well imagine my uncontained joy at the news that my and the nation as a whole’s Certainty to Win wasn’t, (ostensibly), so that the whole event turned into something resembling a hybrid creature precariously balancing between what appeared to be two shaky stools, one labeled Theft of the Century, and the other, Sting Operation.
What a spring in my step I evinced that day as I listened to Simon Parkes do his best to make sense of the whole bizarre event and how gratifying was that overall sense that God was most definitely in His Heaven and All was Right with the World. The year ahead beckoned like a welcoming angel as I rushed into its arms like a child eager to behold its radiant mysteries.
And what an amazing journey of wonder it has been since then. So much so I have decided to write a poem of gratitude in honour of the author and figurehead for so much of that amazingness that has delighted and charmed us so far. I understand ‘The President’ is a man of some great cultivation, (certainly his nose seems sensitive enough) so I am sure he will welcome any offering that comes via the poetic muse and place it, metaphorically of course, close to that great, nation embracing heart of his.

F*%k off so I can get my money
I’ve had these tickets so long
Nobody else wants your s----d jab
They only want you gone
Please have some compassion
And by these words be led
F*%k off so I can get my money
And let the Real One back instead
