Trump is doing exactly what he promised he’d do. Dismantle the cartels.
President Trump signed Executive Order 14157 on January 20, 2025 (his inauguration day), directing the Secretary of State to identify and recommend designations for international cartels as FTOs/SDGTs.
The Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) was designated a Foreign Terrorist Organization on February 20, 2025.
Mexican special forces received specialized training from US Navy SEAL instructors to prepare for the raid against Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes (El Mencho).
Last year, remember, the Trump administration allowed 17 family members of Ovidio Guzmán López—a leader in the SINAOLA CARTEL and son of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán—to enter the United States as part of a COOPERATION deal, with Guzmán López providing information on rival criminal organizations to U.S. authorities in exchange for the family’s relocation.
The same day as the family’s entry was confirmed publicly, the DOJ announced charges against other SINAOLA CARTEL leaders for narcoterrorism, including a warning that cartel members would be “betrayed by [their] friends,”.
President Trump is executing a masterful strategy to dismantle the Cartel and it’s influence over US politics, leveraging its designation as a foreign terrorist organization to unleash military and intelligence operations, and conducting covert Special Forces missions.
