• A new report from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency confirms that nine of the largest U.S. banks engaged in political debanking between 2020 and 2023. The findings were released following President Trump’s Executive Order 14331, issued on August 7, titled Guaranteeing Fair Banking for All Americans.

• The banks named in the report are Bank of America, BMO, Citibank, Capital One, JPMorgan Chase, PNC, TD Bank, Wells Fargo, and U.S. Bank. According to the OCC, these institutions restricted or denied banking services to law-abiding individuals and businesses based on political or religious views, often justifying decisions under vague terms like “reputational risk.”

Services were also restricted for politically sensitive sectors including firearms, oil and gas, and political action committees, largely due to media pressure or public perception rather than legal violations.

• Comptroller Jonathan V.
