I think of a person as “successful,” first, if they’ve satisfied their own definition of “success”; second, if they’re complete with life; and, third, if they have whatever appropriate evidence of success they accept as definitive.

I think of a person as being great if they seamlessly exhibit the divine qualities in their life while taking on a significant part of the world’s unworkability and laboring to make it workable. The divine qualities are such states of consciousness as patience, reliability, honesty, courage, love, joy, peace, etc.

As admirable as we find success, it often centers around service to self. Greatness requires a balance of service to self and service to others.

There’s nothing wrong with the first. Perhaps they’re like junior and senior college. Perhaps we need to get through the one before we move – successfully – on to the second. That very well may be.

Many human-growth manuals focus on how to become successful. I’d rather focus on “greatness.” America has taken the lead and brought the value into focus. It’s the topic that has caught all our attention. So let’s have a look.

“Greatness” implies an act or acts of superlative character, revealing the person as coming from more than just an acceptable set of values, more than just an unusually-meritorious place even, but a response that bespeaks awareness of and a high level of commitment to a divine state of consciousness – perhaps courage, perhaps compassion, etc.

If I were to name a moment of greatness in President Trump, I’d be split between his rescue of the homeless vet (compassion), (1) his garbage-truck moment (humility), (2) and his defiance (courage) in the face of an attempt on his life. (3) In my books, those were moments of greatness.

J.D. Vance, Tulsi Gabbard, RFK Jr. and the others are all offering us similar moments of greatness and humility, sheltering under the shade that Trump provides.

I realize that Donald Trump does not act alone, but as a servant and fountainhead of a large contingent of military and civilian planners and troops, operating out of the spotlight. I might also have said “multidimensional.” (4)

Still, the President could have shrunk from the task. I have to say: He does look tired. But he never seems to have a moment of shrinking from playing his commanding role.  If ever we were to say, “It couldn’t have been done without…,” I’d have to fill in the blank with “Donald Trump.”
