Finally, it is ANZAC Day in Australia and New Zealand – a public holiday. It is the day we honor our war dead, many of whom sacrificed their lives on the other side of the world for the ‘British Empire’.
Yes, that’s right. Tens of thousands of young NZ men travelled thousands of miles across the sea and died in a strange land – for ‘King and Country’.
When I was 23, I back-packed through South East Asia with my brother who was 21. We visited the war graves at the site of the movie ‘Bridge on the River Kwai’. We walked along row upon row of pristine white crosses in acres of green grass. The ages of the dead Australian and New Zealand boys were heart-breaking. Many died before their 21st birthday.

Today, on ANZAC Day, I am honoring the end of war FOREVER on this planet. There will be no more senseless deaths, no more war graves, no more broken hearts of families and loved ones left behind.
It is OVER.
